North Balga Primary School (5499)

School Overview

North Balga Primary is shaping the future of our children. Our vision is 'creating a brighter future for all'. We cater for approximately 225 children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our diverse population includes 15% Aboriginal background and 52% of students have English as an additional language or dialect and leads to a rich school culture.
Co-located on our school site is the North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC), the Primary Extension and Academic Challenge Centre (for gifted and talented students) and an out of school and holiday care program managed by Kid's Academy. The relationship with these agencies enhances the education of the students at our school.
We have committed, proactive teachers and dedicated support staff working to help each child to achieve excellence. Our staff have high expectations of themselves and the children they teach.
Our school takes pride in its flexible and engaging programs, and its multicultural environment, and continually strives to achieve excellence in the academic, social, emotional, behavioural and sporting aspects of school life. We encourage children to persist and commit to giving their best effort at all times supported in a mutually respectful environment.
All teachers integrate information and communication technologies and digital technologies into the curriculum to enhance and engage the student's learning and improve the understanding of concepts. The school has a Digital Technology Specialist that works with teachers and their class to actively engage and promote the use of this growing technology.
Our school has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, with specialists who work with school staff across all year levels to implement strategies for improving and impacting student learning in a positive way. There is a focus on individual children's needs ensuring they are supported or extended in literacy or numeracy as appropriate across all age groups of the school.
We support children with a number of pastoral care programs including virtues, 12 buckets mentoring and our ongoing attendance and behaviour management program. Students have shown positive growth in their social and emotional skills by engaging in these programs. Our Chaplain, employed through YouthCare, coordinates a Breakfast Club and liaises with our families to improve social outcomes for our community. We work closely with the Child and Parent Centre - Warriapendi to provide a twice weekly on-site playgroup for children under four years of age on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The school has an active partnership with all families, who are supported by the school and are encouraged to take an active part in their child's learning.
