Full Fee Paying Overseas Students
Education and Training International (ETI) is the international marketing and development arm of the Western Australian government's Department of Education and Training.
Its primary mission is to successfully recruit and enrol international students into Western Australia's public institutions: primary and secondary schools, Tuart and Canning Colleges, and the ten TAFE WA vocational colleges.
Western Australia has 18 metropolitan secondary schools, 2 senior colleges, 2 country secondary schools, and 1 agricultural college able to provide an educational program to international fee-paying students. All government secondary schools are coeducational, catering for secondary students from Years 8 to 12. West Australian government schools provide a quality education system and a caring and safe environment in which students can undertake their educational studies.
Additionally, ETI provides international project services for the Department and TAFE WA colleges and fosters strategic international alliances with national and international education and training providers.
ETI was created in 2004 to consolidate the previously separate international operations of the Department of Education and Training, consisting of TAFE International WA (TIWA), the International Education Unit, and the international operations of Tuart and Canning Colleges.

Gifted and Talented - Selective Academic School/Program
The Gifted and Talented program is offered for the purpose of providing gifted and talented students entering Year 7, 9, 10, and 11 in public schools access to a range of programs that meet their specific talents.
As well as the extension and enrichment work in a special program area, students follow a normal course of study in secondary schooling.
The humanities program combines studies in English and studies in Humanities and Social Sciences and links classroom learning with community participation. Active citizenship is an important part of the program.
The mathematics and science program features regular participation in national and international competitions, and these efforts have been rewarded with many trophies over the years. Each school has links to universities. The study program matches each student's interests and academic strengths. The learning environment is intellectually stimulating and rigorous.

Vocational Education and Training in Schools Program
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools programs are delivered as part of a broad, general education that combines study towards a senior secondary certificate with a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualification Framework.
The specific areas identified as priority areas for VET in Schools for action in the Principles and Guidelines include:
- The establishment of VET in Schools by schools not previously involved in the delivery of VET in Schools.
- Expanding the range and spread of VET in Schools courses offered across industry sectors by schools already involved in the delivery of VET in Schools.
- The establishment of VET in Schools courses in new industry areas and in industry areas currently not well subscribed in VET in Schools.
- Increasing participation in VET in Schools by particular student groups that are difficult to reach and/or service, for example, improving access for students in rural and remote areas and for educationally disadvantaged students including Indigenous students and students with a disability.
- Developing strategies to maintain quality standards in VET in Schools, including professional development.
- Increasing participation in School-Based New Apprenticeships (in WA these are called School-Based Traineeships) and other trades-related vocational courses that relate to skills shortages.
- Addressing areas of skills shortage.

Aviation
The aviation course caters for the needs of all seeking a career in aviation, science or engineering.
Students have the opportunity to experience flights with 2 flying instructors at the school.
Specialist classes are offered from Years 7 to 10 and then Senior School Aviation Studies courses are available in Years 11 and 12. The course caters for the learning needs of all students, from those seeking a career in aviation, science or engineering to other aviation-related pursuits. Many former students have found employment in the aviation industry.
A purpose-built Aviation Centre within the school houses the majority of the course. The remainder of the course time is spent at airports and in the skies above Perth in the flight program.
We are currently the only school within Western Australia that can boast two full-motion flight simulators, which students can access from the beginning of the course. The addition of the flight simulators to the aviation program has further enhanced Melville SHS's reputation as a leader within this field of study.
