Banksia Grove Primary School (5762)

School Overview

At Banksia Grove Primary School our professional and dedicated staff will strive to build a connected community to support the growth and development of our students. Our enriching and inclusive environment will provide our students with the lifelong skills to build positive and productive pathways to the future.

We have 5 Behaviour Expectations, STARS, that are the guiding principles for all that we do:

- Strive to do our best
- Taking responsibility
- Acting safely
- Respecting others, yourself and the environment
- Support and encourage others

Banksia Grove Primary School is a Positive Behaviour Support school and we use these values to ensure that we have a positive nurturing school culture. This enables students and staff to work to their best at all times.

Banksia Grove Primary School is a modern purpose built Independent Public School that services the rapidly growing suburb of Banksia Grove, which is located about 8km east of Joondalup, Perth, Western Australia. We are able to target both human and material resources to areas of need with the aim of improving student outcomes for all our students. We resource a coaching approach with our staff that ensures we continuously strive to improve.

The school is full of excitement. Each student adds something special to the school's environment. When combined with an enthusiastic and dedicated staff, supportive parents and community members, Banksia Grove PS is a school on the move.

Our school's purpose is to develop in all students the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for a balanced education within a caring environment and to create a school environment dedicated to preparing students to be competitive in the global community of the 21st Century.

The school's priority areas are Literacy and Numeracy and we offer specialist programmes for Physical Education, Science, Performing Arts and Italian.

We are the only school in the Perth metro area that offers Moorditj Yarning to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students hosted by Relationships Australia. This program is delivered weekly within our school, and aims to assist and encourage our Aboriginal students to become proud Aboriginal people with a strong understanding of their cultural background. As part of our school's commitment to reconciliation, we have created a 10 week 'Sharing Kaadadjiny ' (Kaadadjiny means Knowledge in the Noongar language) program that is delivered to all students in Year 3. The students learn about Aboriginal culture, language and history while sharing their own cultural backgrounds and knowledge. Both of these programs are supported and/or delivered by our full-time Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer, Tamara Lewis.

Our other flagship program is our Leap into Learning playgroup. This is for 3 yr old children who are attending our school in Kindy the following year.

Banksia Grove PS is fortunate to host one of the 22 State Government funded purpose-built Child and Parent Centres on the school site. The school has welcomed the opportunity to work closely with the Ngala Child and Parent Centre in supporting families and their children from our local community, nearby schools and surrounding areas.
