Burrendah Primary School is an Independent Public School, located in Willetton, catering for nearly 700 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school motto of 'Encourage, Endeavour, Excel' reflects our supportive learning environment, our strong work ethic and our desire to see our students achieve to the best of their ability. With motivated staff who range from graduate to highly experienced and an excellent supportive partnership with parents, our school has a very positive learning culture.
The teaching of literacy and numeracy skills is given a high priority at our school with students being provided every opportunity to achieve their potential. This is evidenced by our consistently high results across the years in system testing such as NAPLAN. Science is another priority area with all students from Year 1 to Year 6 learning specialist science programs in our purpose built science laboratory. We also have highly regarded specialist programs in health and physical education and the arts (music and visual arts), providing a broad and balanced curriculum for our students.
Students participate successfully in a range of inter school sporting events and arts competitions and events, providing invaluable learning experiences and self-development opportunities. Students in Years 3 to 6 also have the opportunity to study Italian. ICT is embraced by both our staff and students to enhance learning, with student having access to notebooks, iPads and a computer lab.
Programs are put in place to support both students at educational risk as well as our more able gifted students. We focus on early intervention during early childhood to ensure our students are given a firm foundation on which to base their learning in future years.
At Burrendah Primary School, we celebrate our cultural diversity, and provide a comprehensive support program for students who are learning standard Australian English. Just over half of our student population speak English as a second language. We actively encourage the sharing of cultures in our school and community events.
We are implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) with a focus on supporting our students through 'Growing the Burrendah Way' with our newly developed behaviour expectations; Respect, Responsibility, Resiliency and Reach.
Our school is well respected within the local community and shares a common site with Willetton Senior High School and Castlereagh School. There is a close working relationship with these schools and the other primary schools in the area, with many collaborative programs achieving very positive outcomes for students.
