Comet Bay College: Excellence in Education
At Comet Bay College, our motto, Seek Excellence, underpins our commitment to fostering student success. Our moral purpose reads, 'we strive for excellence by nurturing individual abilities, providing meaningful learning opportunities and fostering positive respectful communities'. This guides everything we do, from classroom teaching to extracurricular programs, creating a supportive environment where students thrive.
We provide a dynamic and high-quality educational experience, empowering students to reach their full potential. As a Department of Education-endorsed Gifted and Talented Academic Program school, we offer a rigorous and intellectually-stimulating environment for selected students. Our commitment to excellence extends to extension programs in STEM, Drama, Dance, Music, and Art, as well as our fully-accredited Australian Football Specialist Program, which maintains strong partnerships with the Fremantle Dockers and Peel Thunder.
Situated in the coastal community of Secret Harbour, 64 kilometres south of Perth, Comet Bay College serves students from Years 7 to 12, drawing enrolments from Golden Bay and Secret Harbour Primary Schools. As a local intake school, we continue to grow in response to the region's expanding population and strong community reputation.
Our state-of-the-art facilities provide an exceptional learning environment. Students benefit from specialist science laboratories, a lecture theatre, a fitness centre, metal fabrication and engineering workshops, and a dedicated graphics/mechatronics studio. In addition, we offer cutting-edge Media and IT labs, a fully-equipped food technology facility supporting Certificate Courses, and a high-quality Performing Arts Theatre. Our highly-skilled and dedicated teaching staff utilise these resources to deliver outstanding and comprehensive education.
Comet Bay College is dedicated to supporting students across multiple pathways, including ATAR, Vocational Education and Training (VET), and General courses. We take great pride in our students' achievements across these areas.
Our leadership in innovative teaching has earned us recognition as a Teacher Development School (TDS) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for the periods 2016-2017 and 2018-2019. Through this initiative, we have played a key role in supporting educators across Western Australia in developing and refining their STEM programs.
Beyond academic excellence, we prioritise staff development and student well-being. Our educators participate in professional learning programs such as Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and Instructional Strategies training, ensuring high-quality teaching practices.
Our College culture is grounded in the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework, which promotes the values of Responsibility, Respect, and Safety. These values shape student interactions and help foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for learning. Student well-being is further supported by our dedicated Student Support Team, including School Psychologists, a Chaplain, Youth Development Officers, and a Defence School Mentor, who provide essential pastoral care. Additionally, our Resilience, Emotional Awareness, Health, and Careers (REACH) Program, delivered twice weekly to students in Years 7 to 9, promotes social, emotional, and mental well-being.
Comet Bay College is at the forefront of digital education, integrating advanced information technology to enhance learning. We have invested extensively in ICT resources, equipping every classroom with interactive televisions and projectors. Most recently, the College has expanded its facilities to include an IT Hub and purpose-built STEM learning area. This dedicated zone is designed to inspire innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking, ensuring students are equipped with the future-ready skills needed for success in an ever-evolving world. As a Connect School, we ensure seamless communication and collaboration between students, staff, and parents through our online learning platforms.
