|
Kambalda West District High School is a vibrant and supportive learning community serving both primary and secondary students in Kambalda. We pride ourselves on our friendly and caring environment, with dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who work closely with families to ensure the best outcomes for every student. Our school is guided by the core values of REACH -Respect, Excellence, Aspiration, Connection, and Harmony - which are embedded in all that we do.
Kambalda is approximately 600 kilometres east of Perth and was discovered after a huge mining boom and the first modern settlement was located at the base of Red Hill in 1897. The original Red Hill settlement, on the banks of Lake Lefroy, was formed by Percy Larkin, a prospector who discovered gold in the area. For many years Kambalda was mined for its gold but soon after nickel was discovered. Kambalda's well-known attraction is the Red Hill Lookout where locals have a bird's eye view of nearby Lake Lefroy, a large salt pan which stretches to the horizon. The Lake is often used for land-sailing. Kambalda lies on the traditional lands of the Wongatha and Ngadju.
Kambalda West District High School was formed in 2000 following the amalgamation of West Kambalda Primary School and Kambalda Senior High School. Today, the school serves around 270 students, reflecting the town's fluctuating population due to the mining industry's ups and downs.
Our school is a unique District High School, catering for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. This model creates a seamless learning experience across all stages of education, where students benefit from a close-knit, family-like environment. The school provides a range of facilities, including dedicated areas for computing, physical education, music, STEM and various other teaching spaces, ensuring students have access to the resources they need to succeed. At Kambalda West, we pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive and diverse curriculum.
Kambalda West District High School has established a partnership with Real Schools to develop school culture through language and restorative practice. We believe that every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued and we work hard to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages positive relationships and behaviour. Through a multi-tiered system of support, we cater to individual learning needs, ensuring success for all students, while also prioritising the health and wellbeing of both students and staff.
The school's vibrant culture is driven by both students and staff, who actively engage in creating a welcoming and productive learning environment.
