Education Support Centres' Early Intervention Program for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
The Education Support Centres' offer early, intensive behavioural intervention programs based on contemporary Applied Behaviour Analysis for small groups of kindergarten and pre-primary aged children who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The program is designed and resourced for students who meet the following criteria:
1. Student has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and
meet age requirements specified for kindergarten and
pre-primary aged students.
2 Parents intend the child to attend mainstream Year 1 at
their local public school.
3. Parents demonstrate willingness to follow through
target skills taught with further practice and
application at home.
4. Formal education support placement procedures have been
completed in accordance with the Department's enrolment
policies and the referall has approval from the
relevant district advisory committee.

School-Based Programs
|
|
Buddy Visits
Year 6 students from Mount Hawthorn Primary School visit our classes each week to engage in some activities with our students. This promotes more interactions during recess and lunch times, with the older Primary students helping ESC students, acting as mentors and enhancing play and social skills.

Dance
We have a dance instructor engage students in music and movement each week to help students learn to express themselves through dance.

|
Edudance
In Term 4 our students take part in Edudance, organised by the Primary School. Students from both schools dance together each week and finish with a concert.

Excursion/Travel Training Program
The older students embark on excursions each term using public transport to a variety of locations. They learn how to tag on/off, order lunch in a public place, stay in a group etc.

Hale Boys Visits
Each week Year 10 students from Hale School come to visit us as part of their community service program. Each Hale boy is buddies with one of our students and they engage in various activities such as kite making, model making and sport. Our student thoroughly enjoy this program.

Integration
From Term Two, some students in years 3-6 attend a weekly class with their mainstream peers. These classes are designed to meet the interests and strengths of our students, while developing their social skills and peer connections.

Learning with IT
All students are provided with iPads, laptops and PCs at school. Numeracy and literacy skills are regularly practised using a variety of rewarding apps and programs which are chosen to suit individual needs.

Shopping/Cooking Program
Students in Year 3 - 6 have regular excursions to the shopping centre nearby to buy ingredients for cooking later in the day. They learn to travel as a group, navigate the supermarket aisles in a calm way, find items on shelves and pay at the checkout.

Speech Therapist
We have a speech therapist attending school every week to work with staff in class to ensure staff are using best techniques to stimulate communication for each student. We aim to ensure that individualised skills are practised throughout the week at school and that all staff are on the same page with appropriate techniques used for each student.

TEACCH
This classic classroom-based program is designed specifically for students with special needs. It provides a framework for students to work through their daily program independently. It gives them space and time structure which makes it easier for them to navigate through their daily activities.
