Follow the Dream: Partnerships for Success is a tertiary aspirations program for Aboriginal students.

It targets Aboriginal students with high aspirations as they commence their secondary education. Participating students are encouraged to complete Year 12 and achieve results that enable entrance into tertiary studies. The program also supports high-achieving Aboriginal students in neighbouring schools.

Participating students benefit from after-school learning centres where tutors and mentors assist them in all facets of their education, and also from opportunities created by the involvement in the program of industry partners. The program operates in partnership with The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation.

ESL Support programs provide support for ESL/ESD students in the mainstream context.

A program is established in a mainstream school where there is a significant number of eligible ESL/ESD students.

ESL Support Programs are located in a number of primary and secondary schools. Eligible students with a background of limited schooling are entitled to extra support.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools programs are delivered as part of a broad, general education that combines study towards a senior secondary certificate with a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualification Framework.

The specific areas identified as priority areas for VET in Schools for action in the Principles and Guidelines include:

- The establishment of VET in Schools by schools not previously involved in the delivery of VET in Schools.
- Expanding the range and spread of VET in Schools courses offered across industry sectors by schools already involved in the delivery of VET in Schools.
- The establishment of VET in Schools courses in new industry areas and in industry areas currently not well subscribed in VET in Schools.
- Increasing participation in VET in Schools by particular student groups that are difficult to reach and/or service, for example, improving access for students in rural and remote areas and for educationally disadvantaged students including Indigenous students and students with a disability.
- Developing strategies to maintain quality standards in VET in Schools, including professional development.
- Increasing participation in School-Based New Apprenticeships (in WA these are called School-Based Traineeships) and other trades-related vocational courses that relate to skills shortages.
- Addressing areas of skills shortage.

Girrawheen SHS has a strong partnership with the Australian Business Network Community (ABCN). ABCN provide a group of Year 9 students the GOALS program which aims to provide high potential young people with a range of essential leadership skills required to engage in a meaningful career. The students have been previously partnered with mentors from Ernst & Young, Bankwest and Fuji Xerox.

A popular weekly after-school club where students can perfect their badminton skills and gameplay by playing King of the Court.

Run by our Chaplain and Student Support, students can have breakfast prepared for them before school and during Lunch 1 on 3 days of the week to provide a full tummy for learning.

A strong partnership with Clontarf and the school aims to actively engage aboriginal male students to maximise their school attendance, promote positive participation and achievement in school to attain a WACE, along with training and prospective employment. Through involvement in the Clontarf Academy participants aim to improve their health & wellbeing, develop life skills and build their self-esteem to better equip them. Before school training, after school training, primary school workshops, cultural dance, camps and many more extra- curricular activities take place throughout the year.

Students in the program receive free professional coaching from Curtin University Athletic Club, Warwick Senators Basketball, Badminton WA, and Football Futures Association.

In Year 7, ESP members participate in all sports. From Years 8-12 students can go into a specialised pathway of Basketball, Badminton, Soccer, or Girls Only, with Athletics sessions embedded in all programs.

Weekly after-school classes for students who want to become stronger and fitter. Run from our Weights Room.

Homework Centre is held on Mondays and Thursdays after school. Staff volunteer their time to support students.

A targeted reading program which runs throughout the entire year with approximately 12 participants in Year 7 and 8. This program has seen real success, such as reading improving from a Year 1 Level to a Year 7 Level during the year.

After school program supporting mathematics achievement. The program is supported by community volunteers, UWA undergraduates and teaching staff.

Our Media Club students attend school events during and after school hours to provide professional photography and video of the events, which are often published on our website, socials, and in the newsletter.

Girrawheen SHS is a school of opportunity where students have access to an extended learning community that provides extensive pathway choices of courses that are delivered in quality facilities. Students have access to the New North Education Initiative (NNEI). This partnership is amongst five schools (Balga, Eastern Hills, Mirrabooka, Morley and Girrawheen Senior High Schools). It allows students to access a wide range of courses and pathways, both Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and Vocational Education Training (VET).

The school's Performing Arts Academy is a timetabled program that aims to nurture and develop natural creative abilities of students in Dance and Drama. The program offers a range of performance and competition experiences that reflect the diverse cultural background of our school- Dance (cultural, ballet, hiphop, jazz, contemporary and tap), Cheerleading and Gymnastics.

A full-time support and mentorship program for Aboriginal girls aimed at improving future outcomes.

STEM Club is an after-school extension program that encourages students to expand their knowledge and skills in the STEM areas. Students regularly enter State and National competitions and have been awarded a Global Award.

A leadership development program for Year 9 and 10 students to assist primary school children during high school visits, assist parents on school tours, and meet and greet dignitaries and special guests.

An intensive leadership program with students from Year 7-12 who campaign to be selected into council by their teachers and peers. Students attend a daily Student Council Form Class and plan and implement whole school events and activities to increase engagement and enjoyment of school for all students.

Our school Therapy Dog, Mia, and her trainer, Mel, attending school 2 days a week, where they provide emotional support, help to build positive social connections with all students, and a focus on literacy and engagement.

Our dedicated custom built, state of the art Trade Training Centre continues to lead the way in providing pre-vocational programs in construction to support students to be knowledgeable and industry ready prior to seeking apprenticeships in the building industry. A strong partnership occurs with Polytechnic West.
