Primary Extension and Challenge Program Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) is a part-time withdrawal program for upper primary school Years 5-6 students. Identified gifted and talented students are selected to participate in differentiated programs offered in a range of delivery modes. Delivery modes include: - PEAC centres based within a district centre or office with a series of specialist courses or programs. - Coordinators who establish courses in a range of schools and/or other sites, with teachers released to teach these. - Allocation to schools where multi-age programs operate within schools. - Online delivery of programs. Programs focus on: - Social interaction with gifted and talented peers. - Intellectual rigour and challenge. - Pursuit of excellence. - Development of higher-order process skills. - In-depth investigations of real problems. - Open-ended activities that encourage choice and negotiation. - Opportunities to interact with practising experts. - Students working at their own pace. - Self/peer evaluation and reflection of performance.
Teacher Development Schools Teacher Development Schools provide learning and teaching support for classroom teachers. They are a school-based system resource that provides opportunities to share high-level expertise and classroom innovation across networks and learning communities. A key area of focus for Teacher Development Schools is to provide support for the successful implementation of the Australian Curriculum.
Vocational Education and Training in Schools Program Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools programs are delivered as part of a broad, general education that combines study towards a senior secondary certificate with a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualification Framework. The specific areas identified as priority areas for VET in Schools for action in the Principles and Guidelines include: - The establishment of VET in Schools by schools not previously involved in the delivery of VET in Schools. - Expanding the range and spread of VET in Schools courses offered across industry sectors by schools already involved in the delivery of VET in Schools. - The establishment of VET in Schools courses in new industry areas and in industry areas currently not well subscribed in VET in Schools. - Increasing participation in VET in Schools by particular student groups that are difficult to reach and/or service, for example, improving access for students in rural and remote areas and for educationally disadvantaged students including Indigenous students and students with a disability. - Developing strategies to maintain quality standards in VET in Schools, including professional development. - Increasing participation in School-Based New Apprenticeships (in WA these are called School-Based Traineeships) and other trades-related vocational courses that relate to skills shortages. - Addressing areas of skills shortage.
