Grounds and office staff, education assistants and social trainers, teachers and leadership teams make up a strong community committed to providing individualised, challenging and rewarding learning experiences that are responsive to students' unique learning needs.

Parents and families are the pivotal partners in meeting the educational needs of our students. We build positive relationships with families in educational planning through a range of formal and informal processes.

School Structure

Classes are divided into learning clusters based on phases of learning creating a balance between development and chronological age grouping to create the best possible learning environment for students.

Students in the Early Years are provided intensive support to develop foundation learning and communication skills. There is a strong focus in the Early Years programs on developing Literacy, relevant to each child's ability and interests, providing a strong basis for their future school journey.

The Primary years provide explicit instruction across all learning areas with Literacy, Communication and Protective Education being pervasive throughout the school day.

Students in years 7 to 10 make up the middle phase of learning. In this cluster there is a continued focus on supporting students to develop the priority skills (communication, literacy and Protective Education) with increased independence. At this stage there is an increased emphasis on life skills and community access supported through the achievement of skills in the ASDAN Awards.

As the students progress to the senior years, the pathways and transition team support a focus on vocational education and training, community education, authentic learning, volunteering, leisure and recreation, workplace experience and open and supported employment aligned with each child's individual abilities, interests and post-school intentions.

School Priorities

Malibu School is committed to being a school with expert and specialist facilities and programs for our students with a goal for all students to achieve their intended post-school pathways. To do this, Malibu School has a deep commitment to the core skills of Communication, Protective education and Independence and identifies school priorities of focus to promote student achievement each year. More information about these priorities is described in the Malibu School Business Plan.
