School Overview

Waikiki Primary School is a government, co-educational public primary school located in Waikiki, a coastal suburb approximately 55 kilometres south of Perth, Western Australia. The school caters for students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 and operates as an Independent Public School, giving it greater autonomy in certain decision-making areas. Established in 2002, the school initially operated out of temporary housing made up of seven houses. In 2008, it moved into its current purpose-built facility on Arnside Bend, providing students with access to modern infrastructure and dedicated learning spaces.

The school typically enrols between 300 and 320 students. Waikiki Primary has a defined local intake area, meaning families who reside within certain boundaries are guaranteed enrolment. The school places a strong emphasis on community, with active involvement from parents and caregivers through several community events, such as picnics and learning journeys. Waikiki Primary School is also proudly associated with the Fathering Project and runs events once per term.

Waikiki Primary School promotes a positive and inclusive learning environment guided by its school-wide expectations model. These key principles Happy and Safe, Kind and Connected, Prepared, Engaged and Growing are embedded in the school's culture and influence student behaviour and engagement. This values-driven approach is supported by a wide range of specialist subjects and enrichment opportunities, making the school particularly appealing to families seeking a well-rounded education for their children.

At Waikiki Primary School, English and Mathematics are taught using evidence-based approaches that align with current educational research and best practice. The school places a strong emphasis on high-impact teaching strategies that support student growth, including explicit instruction, regular formative assessment, and targeted intervention. Staff participate in ongoing professional learning to stay up to date with the latest curriculum developments and pedagogical methods. Teachers work collaboratively to plan, review, and refine their practice, ensuring they are meeting the diverse learning needs of all students. The school fosters a reflective teaching culture where educators are continually evaluating their impact and striving to do their best. This commitment to continuous improvement ensures that every student receives a high-quality, future-focused education in the core learning areas of literacy and numeracy.

The school offers a variety of specialist programs. In Music, students participate in weekly lessons that include singing, percussion, ukulele, and modern classroom instruments. The program also includes choir participation and access to the Department of Education's Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) for selected Year 5 and 6 students. Physical Education is also a key focus, with a structured program designed to develop fundamental movement skills in younger students, progressing to more complex sports and competitive events such as athletics and cross-country carnivals. Science is taught weekly to all students from PP to Year 6 in a dedicated science room and features hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. Students in Years 3 to 6 study Indonesian as part of the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program, using online and interactive tools aligned with the WA curriculum. Additionally, Design and Digital Technologies is taught across all year levels, allowing students to engage with modern technology, engineering principles, and hands-on projects in areas such as materials and food production.

Waikiki Primary School places a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, recognising that emotional and social development is essential for academic success and lifelong learning. The school supports student wellbeing through structured, evidence-based programs such as the Zones of Regulation and Grow Your Mind. The Zones of Regulation program helps students develop emotional awareness and self-regulation skills by teaching them to identify their feelings and use strategies to manage their responses in a healthy way. Complementing this, the Grow Your Mind program introduces students to concepts of mental health, resilience, and mindfulness in an age-appropriate and engaging manner. Together, these programs provide students with the tools to build emotional intelligence, strengthen relationships, and foster a positive mindset. Through regular classroom activities, discussions, and visual supports, wellbeing is embedded across the school culture, creating a safe and supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Waikiki Primary is well-resourced with modern, purpose-built facilities that include dedicated spaces for Science, Music, and specialist programs. It also supports families with before and after school care, conveniently offered on-site, helping working parents manage their schedules with ease.
