Beeliar Primary School is located in the suburb of Beeliar within the City of Cockburn. Beeliar is a Noongar word that translates to 'river' or 'water running through'. The suburb of Beeliar includes a chain of lakes and wetlands that run parallel to the coast of WA, which is the origin of the name. The suburb of Beeliar has a rich history dating back 40,000 years. Its traditional owners are the Beeliar Noongar people. Beeliar Noongar means 'river people,' and they are one of the clans of the Whadjuk, the Aboriginal people of the Perth metropolitan area. Beeliar Primary School proudly stands on Noongar Whadjuk boodja.
Beeliar Primary School is a Level 5 Independent Public School with a school population of 500 students. Our Aboriginal population has grown to 10% and we currently have an ICSEA (Index of Community Social Economic Advantage) of 1010 making us a decile 4 school. Beeliar PS is a school of choice in the community and aspires to become a school of excellence, excellence in academic performance, excellence in behaviour, excellence in culture and excellence in our reputation in the community. Through reflection and a strong school improvement plan, we focus on building teacher capacity and working in collaborative high performing teams. In order for students to achieve their learning potential they need to have effective teachers who know what and how to teach. We believe that high quality teaching is achievable in every classroom, for every child, every day. By embedding whole connected practices and explicit instructional pedagogy our mission is to ensure every child achieves year on year progress.
Our focus has been on developing and building teacher capacity so that every classroom has effective lesson delivery. We have focused on embedding consistent and effective instructional strategies with our implementation of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) and Visible Learning supporting our staff to know how effective teachers teach. We have developed scope and sequences in English and Mathematics, so we know what to teach. Our Allied Professionals work as additional educators in the classroom to support all students to achieve their potential through targeted intervention and support.
