School Overview



Cassia Primary School is an Independent Public school established in 1981 and is home to over 577 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We are located on Kariyarra land, in South Hedland and are part of the Pilbara Region.

We are proud of and embrace our local culture through the implementation of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and recognise our community as having a diverse range of cultures, with students from 14 different language backgrounds. With a strong school community that works together we aim to deliver a caring, supportive and safe environment in which all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Students are supported through the learning process with a range of intervention programs for students experiencing difficulties in literacy and numeracy. Specialist programs in physical education, art - performance and visual, Indonesian for Year 3 & 4 students, science, as well as the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program and the friendly schools plus program. Our academic extension program runs for Year 4-6 students. We run cross school enrichment programs supported by the BHP Educational Partnership.

We are a positive behaviour support school in which we have a strong committee, who supports implementing effective strategies for whole school values and positive behaviours, enhanced by the friendly schools plus program. STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and maths and information technology development are strategic school improvement areas. We have students participating in STEM programs, robotics, coding, 3D printing and enhanced learning opportunities using the digital technologies scope and sequence.

Our school believes in 'Parents as Partners' in education and through clear and open communication we have been able to utilise the strengths of all stakeholders to establish and maintain positive and productive relationships. There is a strong and supportive Parents and Citizens Association and school board who are crucial to the effective community that has been established.
