Wickham Primary School (5542)

School Overview

For more than 50 years, Wickham Primary School has provided a high-quality education for Kindergarten to Year 6 students. We value a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment for staff, students and families, grounded in respect for the strong cultural history of the Ngarluma people and a deep commitment to cultural responsiveness.

Our school is an established and integral part of the small-town community spirit that defines Wickham. Strong relationships and partnerships sit at the heart of everything we do.

Our highly experienced staff build positive, respectful relationships with students and families through our whole-school Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach, guided by the shared values of High Expectations, Respect and Safety. As a Resilience Project school, we place a strong emphasis on developing gratitude, empathy and emotional literacy, supporting students' social and emotional wellbeing alongside academic growth.

Wickham Primary offers a broad and engaging curriculum, enhanced by specialist learning areas including Physical Education, Visual Art, Music and Digital Technology. AUSLAN is taught as our language program, supporting inclusive communication and awareness. We also offer Kindilink, strengthening early connections between families, children and school prior to Kindergarten.

Targeted support and extension are key features of our school. Our Literacy Lab intervention program provides focused, data-informed support for students who require additional assistance, while our STEM extension program offers enrichment opportunities for students ready to be challenged. These programs are strengthened through our valued partnership with the Polly Farmer Foundation, including student participation in the Polly Farmer STEM Club.

Technology is purposefully embedded across classrooms, with students and teachers accessing digital tools to enhance learning, creativity and problem-solving. We recognise the importance of STEM capabilities in a rapidly changing world and continue to build authentic learning experiences that prepare students for future pathways.

Wickham Primary is actively engaged with the Centre of Resource Excellence (CoRE) and delivers the CoRE Science in Real Life program for our upper primary students. This approach connects scientific concepts to real-world contexts through inquiry, hands-on learning and problem-solving, strengthening student engagement and deep understanding.

Our school is committed to strengthening cultural understanding and inclusion. We are exploring Two-Way Science, embedding Indigenous perspectives alongside the Western science curriculum, and continuing our journey towards culturally responsive teaching and learning across the school.

Working together with our wider community is central to our success. We maintain strong partnerships with families, local industry and community organisations, the Karratha Network, and as part of the Karratha-Roebourne Education Initiative, proudly sponsored by Woodside. These partnerships enrich learning opportunities and strengthen pathways for our students.

We are deeply committed to working in partnership with our students, staff, families and community to ensure every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their personal best.
