White Gum Valley Primary School (5469)

School Overview

White Gum Valley Primary School is a community of learners where every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their potential. We provide a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to be curious, take learning risks, develop confidence and strive for excellence. Our welcoming, family feel creates a strong sense of belonging, where students, staff and families work together as a connected community. White Gum Valley Primary School (WGVPS) is an Independent Public School catering for students from Pre Primary to Year 6. We are proud of our diverse school community and value the unique strengths, experiences and perspectives that each child brings to our school. Our local feeder kindergarten, Hazel Orme Community Kindergarten, supports a positive transition into school for our youngest learners. We welcome families as partners in their child's education and value the contribution they make to our school community.

The WGVPS values of Respectful, Organised and Safe underpin the way we learn, work and interact with one another. These shared expectations help create a calm, inclusive and connected environment where students, staff and families have a consistent approach to behaviour, wellbeing and learning. Through strong relationships, clear routines and purposeful teaching, we support students to develop the confidence, resilience and responsibility they need to navigate an ever changing world.

Our experienced and dedicated staff are committed to providing high quality teaching and learning that enables every child to thrive. Our small school community allows staff to know our students well, understand their individual strengths, interests and needs, and provide the support and challenge required for each child to grow. Our team includes experienced literacy and numeracy leaders and curriculum coaches who work alongside teachers to strengthen teaching practice and improve student outcomes. Our approach to teaching and learning is informed by the Science of Learning and supported by a range of evidence based programs and practices. We prioritise high impact instruction that supports students to build strong foundations while carefully managing cognitive load. We balance this with purposeful opportunities for inquiry, problem solving, creativity and collaboration, ensuring learning is engaging, meaningful and responsive to the needs of every child.

We aim to empower every child to grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically and creatively. We support students to take increasing responsibility for their learning and behaviour, develop personal goals and become confident, independent learners. Our balanced curriculum provides opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop their strengths and engage with learning beyond the classroom. Students have opportunities to participate in a range of specialist programs, including Italian, music, physical education and visual arts. We also offer opportunities for students to participate in sporting programs, school sporting clinics and interschool sporting carnivals. Students may also have opportunities to participate in the Primary Extension and Academic Challenge Program (PEAC) and Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS). Student wellbeing is central to our approach. As a Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBS) school, we explicitly teach and reinforce positive behaviours and support students to develop the social and emotional skills they need to be successful learners and respectful members of our community. We are also proud to be a Body Bright school, supporting students to develop positive relationships with food, physical activity and wellbeing.

Horizons Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) operates at WGVPS, providing before and after school care for families.

Our P&C Association is actively involved in school life and undertakes community fundraising events, as well as operating the school canteen and uniform shop. The School Board plays an important role in supporting the school's strategic direction and strengthening our connection with the wider school community.
