Middle Swan Primary School (MSPS) has been an Independent Public School since 2011.It is a large, well-resourced and well-equipped school, catering for approximately 380 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school population is drawn mainly from Stratton and the nearby suburbs of Jane Brook and Middle Swan.
Our school motto of 'Excellence and Respect' is deeply embedded in all aspects of school life and underpins reward systems and behaviour processes.
The school's priorities include * Literacy * Numeracy * Wellbeing We implement a strong focus on language interventions in the early years. A Speech Pathologist is engaged 2 days a week to screen and implement programs in the Kindergarten years. 'Language Express', 'Letters and Sounds', Heggerty and Spelling Mastery are additional programs that focus on developing the skills required for learning sounds, letters and words. We work hard to improve school performance and perform above expectation and better than like schools in NAPLAN. Our progress can be attributed to the focus staff have on increasing vocabulary, 'Talk for Writing' and Talk for Reading' programs and the use of explicit pedagogy for foundational knowledge.
The fifty strong staff ensure students experience success at school and provide relevant, often innovative programs in a supportive environment. Staff continually update their skills to ensure students achieve their potential. Middle Swan Primary School works to ensure all students feel safe at school by conducting evidence-based programs and has strong links with universities, community organisations and education associations. The school also offers specialist programs in Physical Education, Visual Arts, Choir, Cycling and the Grass Roots music program. In 2021 we become part of the 3 year Moombaki project to establish a school based indigenous program for all students.
The school benefits from the invaluable presence of the Child Parent Centre. The centre provides an array of services including: * Bus pickup for students * On site Doctor on Mondays * Parenting Workshops * Additional Speech therapy services
The Middle Swan's attendance rate are above the state average for like schools which speaks about students who love to come to school.
Middle Swan has a strong pastoral care focus. Our chaplain assists parents and students three days a week. All staff are trained in trauma informed practices and implement strategies to ensure students develop the social skills required to reach their potential. Each year staff also run and organise Mother's Day and Father's Day breakfasts which promote the sense of community and care the school provides.
