School Overview


Nyabing Primary School (NPS) is located 320km south east of Perth and is part of the Wheatbelt Education Region. Katanning is the nearest major centre, 60 km west. The school services the families that live within the town of Nyabing and the surrounding grain and livestock farming families. Most of the students travel to school on one of the three bus services that are provided. The school is set in attractive grounds, surrounded by Salmon Gums and natural bushland.

Our strong focus on research-based teaching strategies has resulted in a good reputation for Nyabing Primary School, with student numbers increasing. This year, the school has 44 enrolled students, and caters for children from kindergarten to year 6. Class organisation is dependent upon student numbers and within each year group. The school currently offers 3 classes, an Early Childhood Centre (Kindergarten to year one), the Middle Room (year 2 to year 3) and the Senior Room (year 4 to year 6). Suitable class sizes, and exceptional, qualified teachers, allow us to offer a comfortable and inclusive educational environment, while ensuring each student receives the individualised attention and support they need. The staff at Nyabing Primary School consists of the Principal, 3 full-time teachers and 3 part-time teachers. All teachers, including the Principal, teach multiple year levels within the one class. We adopt a Distributed Leadership Model, where staff are encourages to develop their leadership skills and sphere of influence. These leadership roles include the learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science and STEAM, HASS and Sustainability, Health and Physical Education, The Arts, and Technologies. In addition to this, the school employs a Manager of Corporate Services, 2 education assistants, a library officer, a gardener and 2 cleaners.

Our highly qualified teachers consistently model exemplary teaching and learning practices, focusing on the development of students who are capable of achieving success and reaching their goals. They recognise all students learn in different ways and provide a differentiated curriculum to cater for a diverse range of needs. NPS students are respectful, enthusiastic, inclusive and independent learners. They are given opportunities to engage in high order thinking and reflective practices to develop into future leaders.

All classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and our students enjoy access to iPads and laptop computers. Students attend a number of regular events throughout the year, such as, Dumbleyung Speech, Drama and Arts Festival, Interschool Swimming Carnival, the South Lakes Athletics Carnival and Bush School. Both excursions and incursions are offered, when available. The school has one main building consisting of three classrooms, library/resource room, staff room and an administration area. In 2011 the school received a purpose built, demountable building, which is utilised as the library, and a specialist classroom (Science, Music, and HASS).

The school has its own basketball court with a large undercover area which was constructed in 2009, netball/ tennis courts, gazebos, grassed areas and a new, large grassed oval. A sport shed houses a good supply of Physical Education equipment, catering for a variety of sports. The Shire oval, tennis courts, and community pavilion are within a five minute walk from the school and are readily available for school use. Nyabing Primary School enjoys the support of an active Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association.

Nyabing Primary enjoys the support of an active Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association. Over the years the P&C have supported the school by providing funds for resources, special projects and busy bees. In addition, many parents volunteer their time to support teachers in the classroom.

The School Council is made up of parents, community members and staff representatives and provides another avenue for community and parent involvement.
