School Overview
|
'Supporting children to be their best.'
Koorda Primary School has been providing a quality education for local children for over 90 years. Many of the current parents and several staff members have their own fond memories of their time at the school.
The town of Koorda is located 236 km north-east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt. The school is at the centre of a vibrant community and brings the community together in a variety of ways. The town is home to the majority of the current students. A small number of students live on outlying farms and catch the bus to school.
The school caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Class groupings are dependent upon the number of students enrolled in any one year. Typically, there is an early childhood class, comprising Kindergarten to Year Two levels and a Year Three to Year Six class. For 2025, we have been able to add an additional class, and have the following class groupings: Pre-Primary to Year Two; Year Three; and, Year Four to Six. No class has more than 11 students during the pre-lunch session.
The low student-to-staff ratio and multi age grouping ensures students receive opportunities to both work independently and collaboratively with their peers. This also provide opportunities for teachers and ancillary staff to provide hand-on support for students who may need remediation, consolidation and/or and extension.
At Koorda Primary School, all staff believe that every student has the capacity to be a successful learner. We set high expectations for every student in our school and support them to be achieve their potential (and a little more if possible). All students show respect for themselves, each other, the staff and the school community. They achieve this through adhering to the school's values of: Kindness Enthusiasm ResponsibilityÃÂ Respect
Students are offered a range of whole school programs. Specialist areas have previously included Instrumental Music, Science, and Design and Technology. Bahasa Indonesia is offered as a Language Other Than English (LOTE) through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE). This enables students to receive a varied and high quality of education from teachers with specialist qualifications and experience in these subject areas.
Koorda Primary School students integrate many types of technology into the curriculum. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and interactive panels. The school is well resourced with both iPads and laptops. The investment in technology ensures that students are supported in learning skills and provided with opportunities to engage productively with the STEM and the digital technologies curriculum.
Koorda Primary School is committed to developing a whole-school culture that is focused on continuous improvement by linking the learning needs of students with the professional learning and practice of teachers. All staff are supported to develop nurturing and inclusive classroom environments and effective teaching programs and practices.
For 2025, our whole school focus is on the neuroscience of wellbeing and engagement. We believe that students must feel grounded, comfortable in their learning environment, and with themselves, before academic programs can be effective with our goal of setting each student 'challenging and stretching tasks' according to each individual's level of capacity.
In addition to this, our 2025 focus is on learning and teaching Mathematics as well as the integration of critical and creative thinking skills in every lesson.
Koorda Primary School embraces and works collaborative with all members of the Koorda community. The School Council, as part of the governance structure, along with the Parents and Citizens Association, are engaged and supportive, forming the formal link between the community and its school. The Council is consulted for policy-making decisions and has input into the school improvement process. The P&C and general parent body are actively involved in sporting events, carnivals and fundraising for events and resources, which further enhance the educational programs offered by the school.
At its essence, Koorda Primary School offers a safe, supportive and caring school environment that values every student and their unique needs.
