Glen Forrest Primary School (5186)

School Overview

Glen Forrest Primary School is an independent K - 6 school located in a beautiful bush setting and with a welcoming and active community behind us. Our motto, 'Proud to Belong' is an integral part of our school culture.

Historically, we were first established in 1891 under the name Smiths Mill and then renamed in 1897 as Glen Forrest Primary School. We have been proudly educating local students for over 125 years.

As a dedicated Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school, we are committed to our overarching and collaboratively developed values and expectations:
* We are RESPECTFUL
* We are RESPONSIBLE
* We are CARING and KIND
* We STRIVE to be our best.

Students are actively taught expected behaviours as well as social skills, and our behaviour management is deeply rooted within an educative, reflective and restorative framework. We celebrate students' positive choices using a school-wide system and frequently acknowledge successes.

Our staff are highly committed to both student wellbeing and academic progress and achievement. We are invested in the principles of the science of learning, using evidence-based practise and school-wide programs, explicit instruction and setting high expectations for all students. We engage regularly with the department's Teaching for Impact document, consistently striving to refine our strategies for best results.

At Glen Forrest, our Student Services team engages in a structured process which addresses inclusion, diversity and making sustainable, manageable and reasonable adjustments. There is a sensory room available for student use, as well as options for brain or movement breaks, to support students to self-regulate and better engage in learning. We offer MiniLit and MaqLit for reading intervention and use department endorsed tools to collect valid data in other areas of the curriculum.

We also value student leadership, and children have varied leadership opportunities. We have PBS student leaders, cultural leaders, sports leaders and tech leaders. Students have varied opportunities to engage with 'The Green Team' in alignment with our focus on sustainability. This includes our permaculture garden, worm farms, waste-free lunch days and more.

Along with a school community that is a mix of families new to the area as well as families that return generation after generation, we are also an active participant in the Hills Education Community. Along with other local schools, we engage in quarterly events, such as science competitions, interschool sporting events, public speaking and more.
