Our History and Truth Telling Avonvale Primary School opened on 13 September 1954 as North Northam School, serving children from the Holden Immigration Camp. In 1959, the school was renamed Avonvale Primary School. We also recognise that for much of the twentieth century, Aboriginal children in Western Australia were excluded from many public schools through policy and local practice. Elders in our community have told us that, in Avonvale's early history, Aboriginal children were not always permitted to attend. We honour these truths and commit to ensuring Avonvale is, and always will be, a place where every child belongs and thrives.
Our Avonvale Story At Avonvale Primary School we are building a community of learning where every child is known, cared for, and challenged. Our Avonvale Story places student wellbeing, belonging and joyful learning at the centre of all we do. We draw on evidence-based approaches, including the Berry Street Education Model where trauma-informed practices are embedded to create safe, engaging and healing-centred classrooms. Our three school rules are Ready, Respect, Safe and provide clear expectations for learning and behaviour, and they are lived out through our values: Cooperative, Accountable, Respectful, Encouraging, We CARE. These principles guide the way we treat one another, underpinning our strong sense of belonging and community.
Learning and Growth Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 engage with the full Western Australian Curriculum, with literacy and numeracy as foundations. We also emphasise creativity, digital fluency, and the Personal and Social Capabilities that support lifelong learning. Outdoor Learning Days and student agency initiatives give students real choice and voice in their education, helping them to grow in confidence, connection and responsibility.
Our Staff and Partnerships Avonvale has a committed and innovative staff team dedicated to professional growth and continuous improvement. We work in strong partnership with families, the Avonvale Education Support Centre, local schools, community organisations and Elders to provide enriched learning pathways for every child.
Belonging and Opportunity We nurture the whole child, academically, socially, culturally and physically. Students enjoy opportunities in sport, the arts, and community events, from athletics and cross country to NAIDOC Week, Book Week, and Outdoor Learning Days.
Our Commitment We are proud of our history and determined to build a future where all children are safe, connected and inspired to reach their potential.
