Ellenbrook Secondary College seeks to support and encourage your child by fostering a sense of self-worth, respect and confidence. This comes from setting high standards for achievement and having caring, knowledgeable staff that support your child to reach their goals - both academically and personally. We believe quality educators are the foundation on which a school is built.
The College is excited to host a Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Academic program, starting in Year 7 this year (2021). The Gifted and Talented Selective Entrance Program offered at Ellenbrook Secondary College focuses on rigorous studies in Science, English, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences. Students benefit from being exposed to a differentiated curriculum designed to stimulate and develop the individual's skills in inquiry, analytical and critical thinking, communication and creativity.
In 2020, we partnered with the Wirrpanda Foundation, to launch Deadly Sista Girlz Program. This program aims to engage, empower and inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls to succeed. Ellenbrook Secondary College was selected in 2020 by the Department of Education to also host a Clontarf Academy Program which commences this year. This program is supporting the learning of Indigenous male students through a strong football focus.
Our STEM program for Years 7 - 9 continues to grow with students able to solve real-world problems using the latest technology. Our STEM laboratory is a huge success and accessible in many learning areas.
Multiple Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses of study and 15 practical Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses are offered at Ellenbrook Secondary College across a range of fields such as building and construction, hospitality, information and communications technology, tourism and more, meaning students can graduate with a Certificate II or higher upon finishing.
The College prides itself on having a strong Student Support Centre. A dedicated team specialising in behaviour management and focuses on student wellbeing runs this program. Throughout the school year, the Support Centre facilitates a range of activities and discussions for students which cover essential topics like social media usage, bullying and mental health. An example of one of their initiatives is the twice-weekly 'Breakfast Club,' which creates a safe, social space for children to meet while ensuring they eat well before starting their day.
The Support Centre comprises of a dedicated Student Services Manager, a Psychologist, Chaplain, Nurse, First Aid Officer, Defence Transition Mentor, AIEO (Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer), House Support Officers, an Education Support team and teachers to ensure our students receive the best pastoral care possible.
Ellenbrook Secondary College is immensely proud to be one of only a handful of high schools in the state with an accredited, Department of Education approved, specialist music program for instrumental music and voice. In 2019, a selected choir travelled to Queensland to participate in the ASPIRE International Youth Festival and won second place. Entry into the competition was by audition only and Ellenbrook SC was the only public secondary school to participate. Many of our graduates have been offered highly competitive places at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Our music students have been invited to exhibit at both a national and international level on multiple occasions and often perform at significant events around Perth, such as the ANZAC Day Dawn Service ceremony at Kings Park. The College also runs specialised programs for both netball and football.
In addition to their studies, students are welcome and encouraged to join one of our many after school or lunch time clubs. Currently these include: Robotics Club, Breakfast Club, Leo's Club, Eco-Warriors, Maths and/or English Homework Club, Dungeons and Dragons, OLNA Support Club, Scale Modelling Club, Maker Space Club, Follow the Dream, Numero Club, ESports Club, Extension Dance, Theatre Production, Media Club, Arts Homework Club, Kapahaka Group and the AfroBeat/Hip-Hop Tribe. In addition to these, there are a variety of sporting teams available and our arts department also run a successful musical production every two years.
The College has a dedicated area for design and technology (Trade Training Centre), with students frequently producing fantastic work from wood, bricks and metals. We have a barista/cafe, a modern gym, Performing Arts Centre, ICT labs and share a well-resourced library with the City of Swan.
The College is well resources and ensures classes have access to computer resources whenever necessary. We do not subscribe to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, which ultimately keeps schooling costs lower for parents.
We consider parents as partners and believe that it is through this mutual relationship of support that a child's learning and potential can be truly maximised. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the life of the College and its decision-making processes by joining the P&C or our College Board.
