Newman Senior High School is the Iron Heart of Education in the mining town of Newman in the Pilbara. Our vision is to inspire all students towards their pursuit of a successful pathway, which enables positive growth and contribution to community. The Newman Way values of Care and Compassion, Respect and Responsibility underpin the way in which we work with students, families and the community. The school motto 'Iron Heart' represents the strength of character, resilience and perseverance we aim to develop. We acknowledge and respect the Nyiyaparli traditional owners of the land on which we learn, and the Martu custodians.
We are proud to be an Independent Public School, with a strong School Board supporting the school vision and business plan. A number of partnerships and programs support and enrich the learning experiences for students. These include an innovative and engaging School Based Traineeship program in collaboration with BHP, local businesses and employers. The Follow the Dream Program provides support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics are supported by our teachers and quality facilities. We also have relationships with other Pilbara and metropolitan schools to support our upper school ATAR courses. Student course selection is enriched by offerings from the School of Isolated and Distance Education and training with a variety of registered training organisations.
The school has outstanding support from the local community and business. This includes the Pilbara Education Partnership with BHP.
In all classrooms and lessons every day, each child practices the skills which empower them to take ownership of their learning and proactively make their contribution to our community. Our community works together to enable students to be prepared, organised and resilient. We work together to develop habits, behaviours and strategies that students can learn, strengthen and maintain throughout their schooling career.
Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff are determined to make a positive difference to our students. Our school improvement journey includes developing teaching staff and future leaders to foster a robust positive school culture where students make progress.
