School Overview


Wongan Hills District High School, less than 2hrs drive from Perth, caters for approximately 200 children from Kindergarten to Year 12, with Year 11 and 12 programs delivered via the School of Isolated and Distance Education. We are an inclusive school and value diversity. Our specialised team of early childhood staff provide high quality and engaging classes for the children's first introduction to education. Highly skilled staff provide a quality curriculum through middle and upper primary. Specialist teachers in high school deliver a diverse curriculum enabling students to successfully proceed to tertiary bound secondary studies, TAFE or vocational training. Whilst the school maintains a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, we achieve a balance between the academic, social and emotional domains to provide wrap around support for all children in our care. We reflect our school vision of Pursuing Excellence in everything that we do and developing your child's sense of belonging within our school community is important to us. Our school values sustainability and this is embedded into our curriculum.

Our school is focused on providing your child/ren with an engaging, rigorous and challenging curriculum. We also encourage students to be confident and independent learners and use of IT is embedded into the curriculum. To enrich your child's classroom learning experiences a range of incursions, excursions and camps occur throughout the year. A number of students and classes are provided with Education Assistants to further support the needs of identified individuals and groups of students.

A range of specialised programs taught by specialist staff in purpose built facilities provide further opportunities for your child/ren in Kindy to Year 10 to pursue their interests and talents. Programs available for your child/ren include Emergency Services Cadets, Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC), an Academic online Gifted & Program for eligible secondary students, Indonesian, Year 10 Work Experience, Senior Secondary Workplace Learning, In Term swimming in PP-Year 6, Allied Health support for speech and occupational therapy, School Based Traineeships for Year 11 and 12, Breakfast Club, access to a school psychologist and the Zones of Regulation Emotional Learning Program. Your child can also participate in a range of sporting opportunities including football and netball winter carnivals, Secondary Countryweek (basketball, netball and hockey) and, if successful, interschool swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals.

Primary children benefit in our District High School from the opportunity to utilise specialist facilities and access specialist staff in areas including Science, Art, Home Economics, IT Lab and Design & Technology Centre. Students enjoy Interactive Boards in their rooms and banks of iPads and laptops to facilitate learning. Modern playgrounds, grassed areas, hardcourts and oval are enjoyed by students during breaks and Physical Education. Our school, with significant support from P&C and community sponsorship, has created a school garden which will be used by classes to support learning. Our school is well resourced and students benefit from the use of up to date curriculum materials and equipment to enhance learning experiences.
