School Overview
|
Toodyay District High School is set in bushland on the banks of the Avon River. Toodyay (meaning place of mists) is the meeting place of the Whadjuk, Ballardong and Yued Noongar language groups and has a very strong link to indigenous and pioneering heritage. The town was founded in 1836, with the school, on its current site, established in 1954.
Toodyay District High School enjoys strong relationships with the local community. Accomplished teachers deliver quality education to students from Kindergarten to Year 10 using the Science of Learning as our guiding principle. We prepare students to be life-long learners by developing intellectual, physical, social and emotional capabilities. Whether learning through play in our Early Childhood years, or in teams through our SES Cadets programme in Secondary School, we foster breadth of learning and develop students holistically. Our staff dedicate themselves to knowing our students and developing their abilities. Success and a sense of belonging for all is at the centre of everything we do and is based on our three core values: Be Respectful, Be Safe and Be a Learner. A strong student services team comprising members of administration, a school psychologist and chaplain ensures the needs of all students are addressed. This is supported by our Year Co-ordinators and Phase of Learning Teams who also support students in their daily school life.
We cater for the diverse and changing needs of students of different ages. We deliver a range of academic subjects, highlighted in Secondary School by our Pathways program which includes internationally accredited ASDAN courses. Work Experience is provided for all Year 10s. Across the school, we deliver a co-ordinated and comprehensive suite of literacy and numeracy programmes using Explicit Instruction. We offer specialist Music (Year 1-6), including School of Instrumental Music (SIMs) for Year 5 and up, as well as whole school choir. LOTE (Indonesian in Primary, and Mandarin in Secondary), Digital Technologies and electives such as Landcare and Small Business add to our comprehensive offerings. Science teachers in both Primary and Secondary, in addition to a Design and Technology specialist mean that students at our school have a rich experience and many individual opportunities for success.
