Southern Cross District High School (4099)

School Overview

Southern Cross District High School is an Independent Public School in the eastern Wheatbelt. We cater for approximately 90 students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Our highly motivated and caring staff provide quality learning opportunities to children in a safe and supportive environment.

Our vision is to cultivate our students' intellectual, creative, social and physical potential, giving them the confidence to succeed. Our focus areas are:
* quality teaching, successful learners
* positive school culture and environment
* connected community.

Our school is small enough to provide a personalised approach to learning while still maintaining a breadth of curriculum, teacher expertise and resourcing.

Through our comprehensive transition program, students move easily and successfully from Kindergarten through to Year 10 and beyond. Our strong focus on literacy and numeracy provides students with the knowledge to succeed and contribute to a changing society.

Our collaborative staff work together to enrich the learning of our students. Specialised early childhood and primary teachers, together with support staff, provide innovative and engaging classes. Our specialist secondary teachers deliver a diverse curriculum enabling students to successfully move on to senior schooling. Younger students also have access to teachers specialising in science, digital technologies, health and physical education.

Technology plays a big part in our learning programs with all students having access to high quality wireless technology throughout the school (including laptops and Ipads). Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively, obtaining skills to become valued future employees.

As a positive behaviour support school, we pride ourselves on our positive, caring approach to behaviour management. Students, staff, parents and the wider community all work together to promote positive behaviours in school. Our behaviour expectations are safety; take responsibility; achieve; respect; and support.

Our school has built strong partnerships within the school community. The School Board, P&C Association, staff, students and parents are all involved in setting and achieving the goals and objectives of our school. We have built strong relationships with community organisations to benefit students and their families.

Recent upgrades to the schools science laboratory, home economics centre, and design and technology facilities ensure that our students have access to modern and up to date learning areas and equipment.

We strive to achieve a high performance, high care environment for our students and staff. Our goal is to empower our students with the values, skills and knowledge to become valuable members of their local community and beyond.
