Belmont City College is a public secondary school located in Belmont, six kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia. The school first opened in 1957, as Belmont Senior High School and following the amalgamation with Kewdale Senior High School in 2020, reopened as Belmont City College.
In 2010, the College was one of the first 34 schools to be granted Independent Public School (IPS) status. This had a significant impact, as being an IPS enabled the College to target the use of our resources in a manner that would best meet the needs of our students.
Our priorities of ensuring that our students are successful, that our staff excel in their work and that we are the school of choice for our diverse community are reflected in our continued focus on developing and delivering a range of programs that support young people develop the necessary academic, social and life skills essential for success in life.
A responsive and flexible curriculum delivery model implemented from Years 7 to 12 ensures the needs of each individual are adequately met, including the provision of exclusive specialist programs and innovative learning activities. Belmont City College offers programs ranging from our highly successful Department of Education Approved Specialist Contemporary Drama Program to our Music Excellence program and the selective A Plus Academic Enrichment Program in partnership with the University of Western Australia, Humanities classes for second language learners, the Follow the Dream: Partnerships for Success program for Aboriginal students aspiring to attend university and Clontarf Academy and Deadly Sista Girlz engagement programs. Our students are also provided opportunities to participate in a variety of sporting activities at both school and inter-school level.
Our Deaf Education program ensures that students with hearing loss have access to quality curriculum as well as the language support they require to succeed in secondary school. Our campus also has an Inclusive Education Centre where students with identified learning difficulties are able to access individualised curriculum in order to develop their skills and knowledge.
In addition to the variety of curriculum based programs students can access to ensure they achieve academic success at the College, our teaching staff run a number of programs in our local primary schools, allowing student access to elements of specialist programs at a younger age. Our staff are provided opportunities to continue to develop their skills and knowledge as educators, as well as promoting continuous investigation and application of best practice models in education.
Through links with local business, Memoranda of Understanding with the City of Belmont and the University of WA, partnerships with the Clontarf Foundation and the Wirrpanda Foundation, we further enhance the opportunities for Belmont City College students.
