3.  Career Development and Support

The Women in Leadership Action Plan 2011-2014 focuses on ensuring women employees are provided with professional learning opportunities and support to develop leadership experience and capabilities.  This will develop a pool of capable and skilled women able to seek and achieve leadership positions within the Department.

To achieve this, the following initiatives are planned for 2011-2014:

3.1

Estabishing a senior succession program for women aspirants to address the under representation of women in school administrator positions.

Senior School Leadership (Secondary) Program 2011 and 2013

  • Implement a targeted professional learning program for 20 female secondary school administrators to address the percentage representation of women in senior (Level 6) secondary school administrator positions.

Senior School Leadership (Primary) Program 2012 and 2014

  • Implementing a targeted professional learning program for 20 female primary school administrators to address the percentage representation of women in senior (Level 6) primary school administrator positions.

Establishing a senior succession program for executive women to address the under representation of women at Level 9 and above.

Executive Women's Program 2012 and 2014

  • Implementing a senior succession program for executive women (if genda data continues to indicate low gender representation at Level 9 and above).

Developing the coaching skills of school leaders to guide and empower teaching staff in their professional growth.

Coaching Program 2011 and 2012

  • Implementing a Cognitive Coaching Program for female school leaders across the organisation.

Establishing a leadership development program for aspirant women employed in public service positions in the Department.

Aspirant Women in the Public Service 2011 - 2014

  • Implementing a targeted program of leadership development activities annually for aspirant women in Level 4 to Level 6 public service positions.

Providing scholarships for aspiring women leaders to undertake leadership programs and/or pursue relevant tertiary studies.

Scholarships for Aspirant Women 2011 - 2014

  • Supporting, promoting and referring female employees to the Institute of Professional Learning to take up scholarships and public sector development programs as they become available.
