1. Building Inclusive Workplaces for Women

To improve the employment outcomes for women, the Women in Leadership Action Plan 2011-2014 (Action Plan) focus on the responsibilities and behaviour of all leaders in the Department to guide, influence and support the increased representation of women at senior levels in the workforce.

To achieve this, the following initiatives for 2011-2014 has been determined:

1.1

Ensuring gender equity targets are included in executive level performance management agreements and operational plans.

Executive Level Performance Management Agreements include Equal Employment Opportunity Targets

  • Including Women in Leadership targets in executive level performance management agreements for 2011-2014.
  • Integrating the Department’s targets for women in leadership positions into all directorate, regional and Independent Public School plans.

1.2

Building understanding and capacity of executive directors, directors, principals and line managers to address achievement of gender equity targets.

Data to Address the Achievement of Equal Employment Opportunity Targets

  • Providing directorates, regions and Independent Public Schools with specific Equal Employment Opportunity data to monitor and report progress against equity targets at regional, directorate and executive levels.
  • Ensuring reporting on progress towards achieving the gender equity targets of the WiL Action Plan.
  • Supporting directorates, regions and Independent Public Schools to progress achievement of targets through provision of consultancy/advisory service and support resources.

Ensuring reporting on progress towards achieving gender equity targets.

Equal Opportunity Reporting

  • Providing reports on the Department's gender targets to the Director General, Corporate Executive, Equity and Diversity Advisory Group, Women in Leadership Reference Group and Office of Equal Employment Opportunity as requried under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

1.4

Reviewing workforce gender data at organisational, regional and school level to identify hotspots for targeting women in leadership strategies in annual action planning.

Gender Data Review

  • Reviewing workforce data to identify data 'hotspots' where women are significantly under represented in leadership positions within the Department; and support implementation of targeted gender equity initiatives.

1.5

Recognising and promoting women's achievements in public education through the Women of Achievement Award.

Women of Achievement Award

  • Coordinating and facilitating the Women of Achievement Award.
