Apply to teach - application process

If you are ready to apply now, follow these easy steps.

1.

Apply for registration with the Western Australian College of Teaching (WACOT).

As an interstate teacher, you may be able to apply for Mutual Recognition if you are
registered in another state or territory.

2. Complete an Application to teach in a public school in Western Australia form.

3.

Submit your completed application form to Teaching WA and include:

  • a certified copy of your WACOT registration certificate.

You may consider including a ‘Statement of Service’ for any previous full-time or part-time teaching employment outside the Department, as this will help us determine your correct salary level.

A ‘Statement of Service’ needs to be submitted on headed paper and must include:

  • the name of the school/employer
  • a job title (classroom teacher)
  • start and end dates of employment
  • employment status (full-time/part-time—and what fraction of part-time)
  • any periods of unpaid leave—if there are none this MUST be clearly stated
  • a signature of a person in authority from the relevant school or institution (with their name and title clearly stated).
4.

After you receive an employee identification number, complete a Placement Request.

Your Placement Request outlines where you are willing to teach and what you are qualified and prepared to teach. You can include as many schools and districts as you like – the wider your selection the more likely you are to be considered for a position in a school.
