Professor Salmivalli, who heads the National School of Psychology in Finland, led
the development, implementation and evaluation of the highly successful KiVA strategy. This program has greatly reduced
the negative effects of bullying in Finnish schools and increased student safety.
A key feature of the KiVa program is encouraging bystanders and witnesses to bullying to take positive action, particularly
to support victims.

Professor Cross, Director of the Child Health Promotion Research Centre (CHPRC) at
Edith Cowan University, has developed targeted anti-bullying school programs and resources, based on more than 11 years of
research and development.

On Thursday 3 March 2011 both Professor Salmivalli and Professor Cross presented to more than 250 public school staff on this issue. They were joined by Kate Hadwen, Senior Research Fellow at CHPRC who presented the latest research into cyber bullying.
