Smart Steps (0-4 year olds and parents)

Parents, carers and families play an essential role in children's road safety education.
What happens to children in the early years has consequences right through the course of their lives. There are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference to the lives of children and young people.
Evidence shows that the most effective time to get involved in good road safety practices is early childhood, including the ante-natal period.
Smart Steps aims to promote parent and community involvement in road safety education and improve road safety outcomes for children aged 0 – 4 years. Training is offered to child health professionals and community agencies who provide a service to parents/carers/families who have young children. It supports and encourages parents and carers to model safe behaviours and make safer decisions for young children in traffic.
