Principles for School Drug Education

The Principles for School Drug Education documents were produced by the Australian Government in 2004 through the Department of Education, Science and Training.

These documents provide a framework of core concepts and values to support effective drug education with schools. The 12 principles are organised around four key interconnecting themes for effective school drug education:

  • comprehensive and evidence-based practice
  • positive school climate and relationships
  • targeted to needs and context
  • effective pedagogy

The documents are intended to convey the essence of what is currently understood as effective school practice, without prescribing a specific set of actions or procedures within a school
