Welcome > New applicant screening New Applicant ScreeningNew applicants selected for employment The Department’s Screening Policy requires new applicants who have been selected for employment or placement in a WA education facility to consent to the Department’s National Criminal History Record Check (CRC). Criminal Record Checks obtained from any other agency, including the Police, cannot be accepted for employment or placement for legal reasons. Please note that the state’s new Working With Children check is a totally separate requirement from the Department’s Criminal Record Check and both checks may be required in some circumstances. A CRC cannot be conducted without your written consent. Volunteers working with children aged 8 years and aboveVolunteers in schools working with children 8 years and over do not currently require screening unless they are working closely with children as mentors or in other work where the Principal deems it appropriate. This screening, if required, is to be conducted through the Department’s Screening Unit and must be certified by the Principal of the school or agency to be eligible for the reduced $10 volunteer fee. Volunteers working with children aged 0 – 7 years oldVolunteers working with children aged 0 - 7 years old, are now required to be screened through the state’s *Working With Children Screening Unit in West Perth during the course of 2006. A clearance obtained through the Department’s Screening Unit is not required in this case, and will not be accepted instead of a Working With Children check. Parent VolunteersNeither the Department’s Criminal Record Check, nor the state’s Working With Children check are required for parent volunteers in schools, unless deemed appropriate by the school’s Principal for a particular circumstance. Parent volunteers are defined as those with a child attending the same school. *Working With Children checksPlease note that the Department’s current National Criminal History Record Check for education sector employment cannot be used for, and is not equivalent to, a Working With Children check.
