The Department of Education and Training Screening Unit currently conducts National Criminal History Record Checks through the federal CrimTrac Agency for the Education Sector in Western Australia. This sector, in addition to state education facilities, includes those engaged in TAFE Colleges, Catholic & Independent schools, and also teaching students in WA universities.

The Working with Children Check is a comprehensive criminal record check for certain people working with children in Western Australia.

The Working with Children Check is a separate requirement from the Department's Criminal Record Check. In some circumstances both checks may be required.
