The Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 commenced in Western Australia on 1 January 2006. The Act introduces compulsory criminal record checks known as the Working with Children Check (WWCC) for certain people working with children in Western Australia.
The Working with Children Checks are administered by the Working with Children Screening Unit at the Department for Child Protection.
The WWCC is different and additional to the National Criminal Record History Check.
All Department employees whose employment is based at a school site will require a WWCC.
The Act specifies when certain people in child-related work are required to apply for a Working with Children Check.
