The WA Government is focused on delivering a public school system that empowers school communities.
Greater school autonomy, enhanced school leadership, less bureaucratic restriction, and location of support services within or as close to schools as possible are central to this focus.
Independent Public Schools are already giving school communities an increased role in decisions made for their students. It is moving ahead strongly with 98 schools now involved and many more wanting to join.
To align with the focus on local decision making and empowerment of school communities, new ways of supporting schools have been developed.
From 2011 up to 75 networks of schools in eight education regions will be created across Western Australia to replace the current 14 education districts.
This will give principals and school staff more say in how the vital services they need for their students are delivered and used.
In this video the Director General, Sharyn O’Neill, outlines for schools and their communities the benefits to students of the new support model.
