About the Participation Directorate

The Participation Requirement: Understanding the legislation.

Vision and purpose of the Participation Directorate.

Presentations from Engagement Forums held 2006 - 2009 which cover topics including exploring and developing senior school engagement programs, creating sustainability and moving forward.

The consultation process behind the legislation to change the school leaving age included:

  • Extensive community consultation was undertaken throughout 2004 on raising the school leaving age.
  • A background paper (pdf 628kb) was developed to invited people to be part of the consultation.
  • Community forums were set up across the State and a report (pdf 153kb) on the results was written.
  • The consultation process indicated strong support for the proposal to raise the school leaving age. The Gallop Government introduced to Parliament changes to legislation in October 2005 and the changes were passed on Tuesday, 15 November 2005 for enactment on 1 January 2006.
