Parents

Welcome, parents!

Welcome, parents to the 2009-10 Premier’s Summer Reading Challenge. This year, the Challenge will run from 7 December 2009 until 8 February 2010. Participating in the Reading Challenge is a great way to keep your kids interested in reading and learning over the summer, and they are rewarded for doing so. It helps children return to school in the new year, ready to learn with greater reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Last year was a success with many parents taking on the Challenge to read for 15 hours over the summer period. We challenge you to do the same this year! Either read for 15 hours or read to your child for 10 or 15 hours, and be in the running to win one of two shopping vouchers and book packs valued up to $500 each.

On this website, you will find information about the Challenge and more. We have a range of activities that will help your child develop a love for books and reading. Encourage your child to write a book review, leave a message on our message board, read about their favourite Western Australian children’s book author, and check out interesting links to other websites.

Try to make some time to get down to your local library. For every five hours your child reads, they can collect a sticker and a prize. Libraries across the state will host fun events with Western Australian children’s book authors.

How to get started:

Step 1 – Make sure your child has a Reading Challenge log. If you don’t already have one, you can download it here.

Step 2 – Register for the Challenge online. Go to the registration page on this website and provide your child’s details. Registering online will keep you and your child up to date with all the latest news about the Challenge.
