Introduction

In December 2008 the Western Australian Government signed the three Smarter Schools National Partnerships: Literacy and Numeracy, Low Socio-economic Status (SES) School Communities and Improving Teacher Quality.  As part of the school reform initiatives of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), these National Partnerships will provide funding to schools to support students, teachers and leaders. This additional support will contribute to raising overall educational attainment levels so that all Western Australian school students acquire the knowledge and skills to participate effectively in society.

The National Partnerships are jointly funded by the Australian Government, the State Government and the Catholic and independent school sectors. Together we are committed to raising standards, improving accountability and achieving better outcomes for students by working together, wherever possible.
