Scholarships

The Scholarships program assists government and non-government organisations in the selection of candidates for a broad range of community based scholarships.

Overview

Scholarships are advertised on an annual basis for the benefit of students and to assist families manage work, study and family committments. Candidates are selected through the formation of selection committees to assess applications, implement processes to award scholarships and promote scholarships throughout the year.

Background

Scholarships have been available to Western Australian schools for a number of years. The Community Relations focus area administers two categories of scholarships for secondary students and post-secondary students:

  • Scholarships advertised, appraised and awarded by the Department as a result of charitable bequests
  • Scholarships awarded by non-government organisations but are advertised and appraised by the Department

Outcome

The Scholarships program aims to support:

  • school and districts to ensure students achieve the standards expected of them at particular years of schooling
  • participation by students in each stage of schooling and engagement in learning programs
  • districts and schools are supported to manage student diversity effectively
  • ensure that government and non-government primary and secondary scholarships are effectively managed and promoted
