Information for markers

The 2009 marking of the WAMSE assessment tasks is scheduled for 22 August to 4 September. Qualified teachers will undertake the marking and expressions of interest are sought from eligible teachers who are interested in marking.

Participation in the marking is recognised by the Professional Learning Institute as system-endorsed professional development.

The date of submission for the Expression of interest form is still to be announced.

Information

  • Approximately 25,000 assessments from each learning area are scanned and marked on screen

  • Markers work in groups of 6-8 with a group leader

  • Strict reliability and comparability measures are adopted and monitored by the group leader

  • Markers may choose to attend either a day or evening session. Day session times are 8.30am to 3.00pm and evening session times are 4.00pm to 9.00pm

  • Once the marking has begun, markers cannot change between sessions

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Teaching qualifications

Desirable

  • Previous experience in marking:
    • WAMSE Science or Society and Environment 
    • MSE9 Science assessments or Society and Environment system assessments 
    • NAPLAN (MSE9 or WALNA) assessments
    • Other MSE or system level marking
  • Interest in Science and Society and Environment assessment and development

Primary and secondary teachers are encouraged to apply. Teachers who are currently employed at a school will need to obtain the principal's endorsement to participate in the marking.
