NEW IN 2008
NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM LITERACY AND NUMERACY (NAPLAN).
From 2008, the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will replace the previous full-cohort literacy and numeracy assessment programs of all Australian States and Territories for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
In Western Australia NAPLAN replaces the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) for Years 3, 5 and 7 and the Monitoring Standards in Education at Year 9 (MSE9).
The results from the national Literacy and Numeracy tests will provide an important measure of how Australian students are performing in the content strands of numeracy, reading, writing, spelling and grammar and punctuation.

Welcome to WALNA
The West Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) is
a curriculum-based assessment that is criterion-referenced and tests
students' knowledge and skills in numeracy, reading, spelling and
writing. The WALNA test is administered annually to students in
years 3, 5 and 7.
A cornerstone of the Department of Education's operations is to
ensure quality education provision to all students, irrespective
of their background or geographical location. As part of these operations the Educational Measurement Branch conducts three assessment
programs:
WALNA: This website gives information about the WALNA program
MSE9: Click here for information about the Year 9 assessment in ENGLISH, MATHS and SCIENCE
MSE: Click here for information about assessment programs in all Learning Areas
