The Department of Education and Training is the largest employer of swimming instructors, employing more than 1,500 qualified swimming instructors in its Vacswim and Interm swimming programs. The Department’s preferred qualification is the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate or an equivalent.

Applications for positions in the Interm program can be made at anytime. Appointments in the metropolitan Interm swimming program are made in September for term 4, December for term 1 and April for terms 2 and 3. The local organising principal makes appointments to the country Interm program. For more information click on the relevant link or contact the Interm office on interm@det.wa.edu.au.

Staffing for the Vacswim program commences in September for October school holiday classes and November for January classes. Applications are forwarded to instructors previously employed in the Department’s classes.
