The MSE Developmental Profiles display the continuum of skills and understandings derived from over ten years of test data.
The Rasch model used to analyse MSE, MSE9 and WALNA test data, allows the difficulties of test questions and the abilities of students responding to the questions to be placed on the same scale. The model also allows for questions used in consecutive years of testing to be placed on the same scale. For the purposes of reporting student achievement in WA, this scale is referred to as the WAMSE (Western Australian Monitoring Standards in Education) Scale.
Data collected by MSE, MSE9 and WALNA show that questions which assess similar skills and understandings have similar levels of difficulty. Each statement on the MSE Performance Profile, is a summary of skills assessed by questions that have a similar level of difficulty.
