Planning Frameworks

Science Planning Guide - Planning From the Context

Interest/Issue/Activity:
(something that kids talk about/read about/are concerned about/interests them)
What are science ideas that relate to that interest/issue?

Which major learning outcomes could students be given opportunities to achieve?

Conceptual:

Working Scientifically:

What level are individual students in my class working towards in these outcomes?

Valid Assessment:
(What methods are you going to use that will give feedback to the students, encouraging them to learn/progress, and give you a good understanding of the student and their progress?)

  • Where are the teaching points in this plan?
  • How do we incorporate other outcomes/values?
  • How do staff come to an agreement on the processes used in planning, assessing, refining?
  • Would an individual record/journal help teachers clarify and improve the process?

Pedagogy:
(How will students engage? What prior understanding do they have? What will they DO to achieve the outcomes? What questions do students have focused on the topic/issue?)

What teaching/learning strategies are appropriate?:
(How do you incorporate collaborative learning, thinking skills, student evaluation, presentation of work? Do they account for different learning styles? Are there activities or open ended tasks/investigations that have worked brilliantly in the past? Will these help students progress?)
How do I set my kids up for success?

Formulate ways of sharing ideas/information/answers/reflection.
