NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM LITERACY AND NUMERACY (NAPLAN)
From 2008, the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) replaces the previous full-cohort literacy and numeracy assessment programs of all Australian States and Territories for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
In Western Australia NAPLAN replaces the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) for Years 3, 5 and 7 and the Monitoring Standards in Education at Year 9 (MSE9).
The results from the national Literacy and Numeracy tests will provide an important measure of how Australian students are performing in the content strands of numeracy, reading, writing, spelling and grammar and punctuation.
The development of the NAPLAN has been managed by the Curriculum Corporation on behalf of the State, Territory and Commonwealth Ministers for Education. All government and non-government education authorities have contributed to the development of the NAPLAN materials.
Further information on the NAPLAN assessments is available on the Curriculum Corporation website: http://www.naplan.edu.au/
