TECHNOLOGY AND ENTERPRISE - Year 3 Assessment Tasks

Money Holder

MSE supplies

  • MSE Technology and Enterprise Primary Teachers Manual (one per school)
  • One A4 Black and White Money Holder stimulus card (one per school)
  • Student answer booklets

The school supplies

  • one HB pencil/pen (for each student)
  • tapestry needle or wool needle (for each student)
  • materials samples: approx 5cm2 of each of hessian, cotton, felt and cross stitch fabric (for each student) Note: these samples should be put in an envelope and kept by the school for use in future assessments.
  • The following table lists class equipment that should be made available, and the consumable materials required by each student

  • packet of dressmaking pins
  • staplers and staples
  • sharp scissors to cut fabric
  • ruler
  • other class equipment and materials, if they are normally available to them
  • hessian or other fabric (approx 25 cm square per student)
  • additional scraps of material
  • coloured cord (approx 50cm per student)
  • velcro (approx 3 cm per student)
  • wool - 8 plyˇ embroidery cottonˇ craft glue - 60 ml
  • masking tape
  • string (1 ball)ˇ buttons (15 per class)

Note: the consumable materials list is a suggestion only. While an allowance per student has been calculated some students may choose not use it. Students require access to a range of fastening and sewing materials. Teachers should use their discretion in how the materials are organised and distributed.

Assessment time

  • 140 min in total (over two sessions):
    • Session 1: answer booklet questions; product planning
    • Session 2: making the money holder; evaluation questions

This time includes about 10 minutes for instructions and for distribution and collection of materials.

  • rubber band (approx 10 per class)
  • scraps of fabric or other materials
