In this section of the MSE web site, you will be able to
undertake product marker training for the MSE Technology and Enterprise
assessment tasks.
Before marking your students' products, you should complete this
training for the appropriate product (see Links
to Tasks below). Please note that you should become familiar with the
task described in the
relevant Teachers Manual before completing the training. Marking criteria and products are tailored
specifically to each task.
Contents
For each task you will find:
- The Marking Guide, in Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format, for
you to download. This guide is also in the relevant Teachers Manual.
- A Training Practice Record Sheet, in Word or Adobe Acrobat
PDF format, for you to download to practice scoring the work samples.
- Links to work samples. Each work sample has
- a colour photo
- student responses to relevant questions from the student
answer booklet (if applicable)
- a score, with explanatory commentary, for each of the categories
of the marking guide
Steps to Successfully
Complete Training
- Read the Product Marking notes in the Marking Guide Section
of the relevant Teachers Manual.
- Have your Marking Guide and Training Practice Record Sheet
ready.
- View a work sample (it does not matter in which order you view
the work samples).
- Use the student responses to relevant questions, where necessary.
- Using the categories on the Marking Guide, score the work sample
using the Training Practice Record Sheet.
- When you are satisfied with your scoring, view the commentary
for each category.
- Examine and account for any differences. Adjust your scoring
where necessary.
Marking Your Students' Work
To achieve and maintain consistency of judgement, refer regularly
to the criteria on the marking guide, the work samples that exemplify
the criteria, and to the commentaries which explain the relationship
between the two. Adhere to this relationship.

A Note On Levelling
When students make a product, they are integrating skills described
in the technology process strand and one or more of the content
strands. The best estimate of level of achievement on the MSE T&E
tasks is therefore obtained from the total score achieved on the
whole task. A guide to estimating levels can be found in the Performance
Profile section of the relevant Teachers Manual.
