20th Round of Offers (Term 3/4 2009)

The 20th round of offers for NFT Program notebook computers will open from mid-August 2009.

The deadline for applications will be 18 September 2009. Delivery is expected to commence in early Term 4.

Contribution rates will remain unchanged from the 19th Round, namely $10.85 per fortnight for Acer TravelMate TM 4730 PC notebooks and $17.30 per fortnight for Apple MacBook Pro Aluminium notebooks.

This offer replaces notebooks provided in Round 13 (Semester 2, 2006).  Places are available for eligible new applicants also.  Vendors will fax advice to principals regarding the collection dates/arrangements for "old" notebooks late in Term 1 or early Term 2.

Applicants should not rely on delivery of a new notebook to back up critical data since the old notebooks must be returned to their financiers on time regardless of new deliveries. Please back up in advance instead!

There is only one free pickup per person per school; if the collection service is missed then a participant must arrange their own return via courier or may return the notebook at Central Office during business hours.

  • End of NFT Internet service - as advised via Ed-e-mail during May, please note that Telstra closed the NFT dial-up Internet service at the end of June 2009. Unfortunately, no suitable replacement service is available. Participants who formerly made use of this service may wish to make alternative private arrangements.

  • Documents for Download

    Essential reading for Applicants

NOTE: If you have any trouble opening these documents, please try "right-clicking" the link. A small menu will come up - choose "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" to save the document to your desktop instead.

  • NOTES - important, please read!

    1) Specification Changes - models on offer feature changes versus earlier models, such as smaller 14.1" wide-screen format displays on Acer models, deletion of dial-up modem on Apple models, port format changes and so on. Please read the specification document carefully and contact the NFT Program admin section on 08 9264 5636 if you require any further advice. When the offer closes, applicants will be deemed to have been fully informed on these issues and applications will be considered binding.

A comparison photograph showing 2005/2006 vs. 2009 Acer models may be seen here.

    2) Collection Dates - the vendors will fax final advice for collection of old machines to principals a week or two before the collections start. You MUST stay in touch with your principal to receive this information, we do not write to you again about this until/unless the collection is classified as a failure. Under your contract you are considered responsible for appropriate return of your notebook. If in any doubt, please contact the NFT Program administration section on 08 9264 5636.

    3) Binding Contract - completing and returning the NFT registration form constitutes a contract under common-law 'offer and acceptance' rules. There is no 'cooling-off period' and applicants must accept notebooks on delivery (unless no longer employed in an eligible position).

    4) Incomplete or unsigned forms cannot be accepted.

    5) Central support is not provided for connection of Apple notebooks to school networks, also, some Departmental applications such as SIS are not available for the Apple platform at present. Hardware specifications and required contribution rates differ between Acer and Apple products.

    6) Checking receipt of your form - a confirmation list will be emailed to school NFT contact persons on the last day of the offer. Neither fax nor postal services are  100% reliable. If your application from is not received and processed, and you fail to check the confirmation list on the last day of the offer, then you will miss out on a replacement notebook. You will still have to return your existing notebook.

The Department will not break or vary a contract where a teacher later reconsiders their decision, purchases a private notebook, finds that the specification or cost of the requested notebook does not meet their needs, or any similar case.

Repurchase of Used Notebooks

The financier will make a resale offer on Round 13 notebooks. The financier's sales arrangements are detailed at this website:

 http://www.graysonline.com/sale.aspx?id=149450

Acer units will be priced at $385.00 while Apples will be priced at $495.00.

Please be aware that the Department is obligated to collect, reimage and return notebooks to the financier at the end of lease, and sales are effective after this time. There may be a significant lapse of time between your return of the notebook and delivery of a repurchased notebook.

The financier hopes to return the same notebook previously held by a purchaser where possible. However the Department of Education and Training is not party to any post-lease sale in any way and no responsibility is accepted for any problems which may arise with the sale process. All communications regarding such problems must be addressed to the vendor.

Users who seek to repurchase an ex-lease notebook accept that this is entirely a private commercial matter and that DET has no power to intervene on their behalf if the purchase does not go smoothly.
