19th Round of Offers (Term 1/2 2009)

The 19th round of offers for NFT Program notebook computers will open from 27 January 2009.  As at 25 February the final contribution rates for Round 19 notebooks remain under review. Therefore, the deadline for applications has been extended to 12 March 2009. Delivery is now expected in May 2009.

It is now considered very likely that contribution rates will increase from the former single $10 fortnightly rate, due to exchange rate volatility and changes in notebook purchase costs for both Apple and Acer notebooks offered under the Program. A difference in rates is expected as the magnitude of the price increases differs between the makes.

This offer replaces notebooks provided in Round 11 and Round 12 (Semester 1, 2006).  Places are available for eligible new applicants also.  Vendors will fax advice to principals regarding the collection arrangements for "old" notebooks late in Term 1 or early Term 2.

Applicants should not rely on delivery of a new notebook to back up critical data, since old notebooks must be returned on time whether or not new deliveries are on time. There is only one free pickup per person per school and costs may arise if the pickup is missed.

  • Notes - important!

New Rates - due to cost increases, contribution rates will now be $10.85 for Acer notebooks and $17.30 for Apple notebooks (Goal Amounts to be $846.30 for Acer and $1349.40 for Apple).

If you wish to change or cancel your application following publication of further details, you may do so up to the 12 March deadline only.

Screen and Other Specification Changes - models on offer feature changes versus earlier models, such as smaller screens, no modem on Apple models, port changes and so on. When the offer closes, applicants will be deemed to have been fully informed on these issues and applications will be considered binding.

CONTRACT NOTES:

1) completing and returning the NFT registration form constitutes a contract under common-law 'offer and acceptance' rules. There is no 'cooling-off period' and applicants must accept notebooks on delivery (unless no longer employed in an eligible position).

2) Incorrectly completed or unsigned forms usually cannot be accepted.

3) Central support is not provided for connection of Apple notebooks to school networks, also, some Departmental applications such as SIS are not available for the Apple platform at present. Hardware specification will differ between Acer and Apple products. Contribution rates may also differ.

The Department will not break or vary a contract where a teacher later reconsiders their decision, purchases a private notebook, finds that the specification or cost of the requested notebook does not meet their needs, or any similar case.

Repurchase of Old Notebooks
